incognito contest, Sakurajima Volcano, Kagoshima, Japan, Eleanor TetreauI am standing at the southwestern tip of a country located on an archipelago in the
Pacific Ocean. I am in the city that lies perilously close to this monstrous volcano, which showers the local inhabitants with a light ash almost every afternoon.

The climate is warm and lush, perfect for vegetation to flourish in spots like the famous botanical gardens on the outskirts of the city. Because of its mild and sunny climate this city is called the "Naples of the East."

The volcano used to be an island, but in 1914 a massive eruption filled in the water and transformed it into a peninsula. This was the first large eruption in over a century, and now the nearby city conducts regular evacuation drills in case another large eruption is predicted.

Despite the hovering danger of another disaster, this volcano is a sight to behold from any point in the city and can also be enjoyed up close from the many walking trails and hot springs on the mountain.

Do you know where I am?
