The man I’m dating asked me to find a place in Kennebunkport, ME for a romantic weekend getaway. I’d put off finding a place for four days and then suddenly, it was the night before and I’d already had two martinis. So, I literally stumbled around on my computer and tried to spell “Kennebunkport” correctly for about five minutes when finally I clicked on something that took me to somewhere that led me to the Captain Fairfield Inn.

It was in Kennebunkport, the prices were reasonable, and they had availability for the following night. Perfect… Wait, breakfast was included? Awesome! It looked soft and stylish, not kitschy; and each room had its own name, names like Polly Lord and Brig MacDonough, which, after two martinis, are all hilarious. Regardless, the reservations were booked.

We showed up the next day not really knowing what to expect. What we found was heaven.

First, the Captain Fairfield Inn is located on Pleasant Street, which is in a quiet neighborhood in the heart of Kennebunkport. It overlooks the river green and is surrounded by centuries-old Elms and Maples.

The Innkeepers, Finn and Loryn are a young, adorable couple with an enormous dog. When you arrive at their Inn, they seem genuinely happy to see you. You’ve never seen adults get more excited about warm homemade cookies.

There are only 9 rooms at the Inn, so it does fill up fast, especially in the summer. Room rates range from $146.00 to $381.00 per room per night, depending on the room and the season. If you go during their “Quiet Season” (the winter months) you can get a phenomenal deal.

All the rooms feature luxury Frette bed linens, private baths, flat screen TV/DVDs, AC, and Wi-Fi. Some rooms include additional amenities like fireplaces, private porches, double whirlpools and rainfall showers. Our room had the rainfall shower, which I would highly recommend.
